Rising Stars: Meet Ruchir Sajwan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruchir Sajwan.

Ruchir Sajwan

Hi Ruchir, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have always had a deep passion for the art of capturing images. From the early days of using mobile VGA cameras, I’ve constantly sought to refine my skills and explore my potential in photography. I have been working with cameras for more than a decade now, and what started as a hobby soon evolved into something more significant – a true calling.

What thrills me even more, is to use my passion and skills to serve people by creating a memory for them they can hold on to. My goal is to create an enjoyable and relaxed experience for every client.

I have tried many genres of photography, and most of my experience is in landscape and animal photography; however, ever since I had my daughters, I found myself enjoying working with kids and people even more. I started photography as a profession, especially family photography because I love learning about stories, cultures, and people. And to me, this is an amazing way to help people capture their moments.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been smooth; however, it has been rewarding. Learning never ends; the more you work with people, the better you get equipped to do better. The learning and technical aspects of photography were relatively straightforward for me because, for a long time, I learned it in my leisure time.

The challenge came when I made it a profession. When I started, I wanted to solve everything from the beginning – making a website, creating a brand, hoarding gear, professional conduct, mastering editing, knowing how to pose people, and so on. I guess I wanted to be confident before committing to clients. This was the reason I did not start earlier.

However, as I worked with clients, I got comfortable with what I had and confident in working with people. I was always open to feedback which resulted in quickly adapting to the needs. My advice to anyone who wants to start is to just take the first step; you will be in a better place even if you fall.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Professionally, I work in the financial industry in the U.S., where I provide analytic solutions to businesses. I love telling stories using data visualizations and finding solutions to help the organization with its strategy and goals.

The aspect of the job that I’m most proud of is networking. Various projects enable me to work with people across locations and of different professional backgrounds. There is tremendous growth and learning opportunities when you work in a team.

How do you define success?
Success for me is to finish what you started. It sounds very simple; however, most of us start with an idea as the situations and circumstances are conducive to materializing it, but, never finish it.

I have always had this challenge and I’m still learning to be better. What I have realized is being committed to the work helps move it forward until you finish it.
