Rising Stars: Meet S Dot of North St. Paul

Today we’d like to introduce you to S Dot.

Hi S Dot, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Well, before I started DJing I was a rap artist. So, I built my name & network with rap music, which made it easier to break into the Dj Scene in Minneapolis. I was terrible when I started lol, I was getting booked because I had a name. I eventually got good. So good even that I became overbooked & double booked, which lead me to send other Djs to fill in for me. I soon turned that into an official company., The Madison Sound Djs LLC. When I was a rapper I started putting on my own shows. I took that knowledge into my Dj Career and started throwing my own events. I learned early that it’s more profitable to collaborate than to compete. I collaborated on events with Izzy, then Chantel Sings & Rico Nevotion, & more. I eventually Co-Created Promo Crew “The Splash Bros” with Versatilehands & we created a cool culture of throwing Really dope events in Different hotel lobbies around the cities. We ran it up for years, then over a year ago we joined forces with Jermaine & Chris & created the collective, “The Big 6”. We’ve grown to become the BIGGEST in our lane. We put on multiple successful events throughout the week, every week. Some of our most known events are Big6 Saturday’s, Strictly R&B, Biggest Brunch Ever, Ready4Summa, Midnight Catch, & Mito After Dark!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It wasn’t necessarily smooth, but it’s been a great ride. The first obstacle was getting better so i could even be mentioned with the Top guys. Then the next struggle was learning the business of the nightlife. After that, i had to learn to stop taking club gigs, stop saying yes to a guaranteed checks and commit to risking it on throwing my own parties. From there it’s been continuously learning new ways to promote, entertain, and control a room.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m most known as a Dj. After that I’m known as a party promoter. But I’m very passionate about business. So I own a Dj company, trucking company, and real estate company. I also have a pod cast called “It Was This Or Therapy” with Lisa Moy. I don’t feel much pride, I feel gratitude. All Glory Be To God!

How do you define success?
I once heard that success is not owned, it’s rented and the rent is due everyday. So success is when you execute your plan.
