Rising Stars: Meet Sarah Bloo of Minnesota

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Bloo.

Hi Sarah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Art has always been my way of understanding and connecting with the world since I was a kid . Long before I called myself an artist, I was captivated by colors, textures, and the stories that could be told without words.

When I was 17 years old a woman who owned a children school saw me drawing then she told me she will pay me to paint some cartoon characters for the kids on the walls of her school that’s where it started- my very first customer . Of course I was really nervous but one thing that helped me was believing in myself because I haven’t painted on a wall before. I believe so much in myself that I could paint on walls, canvas , any surface and it will till come out so well , and yes it did and I was even paid extra .You know how it works one customer brings 10 the 10 can produce 20 other customers as long as you do a great job .

Believing in myself has really helped me till today .What began as a quiet fascination gradually became a lifelong journey of creative exploration.
Over the years I have continued to self teach myself, refine my craft through experimentation, learning, and a commitment to artistic growth. Each piece I create is an invitation to pause, reflect, and connect.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My journey as an artist has been rewarding, but it has certainly not been without challenges. Building a career in arts often requires persistence, especially back when I started as a teenager where I’m from in an environment creative work is not always fully understood or valued. There were times when finding clients, securing exhibition opportunities, and gaining recognition for my work felt difficult but consistency is really the key.

During my university years was the most challenging time because I was studying computer engineering while still pursuing my Art career which it’s a talent I developed early. There are some days I will have school engineering projects/ exams
and also some deadlines for my artworks ; time management and discipline really helped me achieve my goals.

Balancing the demands of running workshops now, teaching young artists , managing creative projects, and maintaining my own studio practice ,still doing engineering has required focus and determination.

However, these experiences have strengthened my resilience and deepened my appreciation for the creative process. Each challenge has taught me valuable lessons, inspired new ideas, and helped shape me into the artist I am today. Being ambidextrous (painting with both hands ) also helped in getting my works done faster .

Looking back, I see those obstacles not as setbacks, but as important steps in my growth and development as a painter and creative professional.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an Artist , Painter , Muralist and Engineer specializing in acrylic portraiture , murals and mixed media . My work explores human emotion, identity, culture, and the stories that connect us. Through layers of color, texture, and expressive detail, I strive to create pieces that go beyond appearance and capture the essence of my subjects.

In addition to my studio practice, I am passionate about arts education and community engagement. I am known for creating opportunities for people especially children and young creatives to discover their own artistic voices through workshops , classes, and creative experiences and over the years I have seen great improvements . I also coordinate adults to paint and express themselves on canvas ; art soothes and also helps mentally.

What I am most proud of is my ability to use art as a bridge for connection and storytelling. Whether I am creating a portrait, leading an art workshop, or curating a creative experience, my goal is to inspire reflection, conversation and imagination.

I am also known for being ambidextrous which it’s rare to see people paint with their both hands at the same time simultaneously on the same piece. This ability allows me to approach the canvas from a perspective that is both instinctive and unconventional, creating a dynamic balance between precision and spontaneity.
Moreover, Painting with both hands expands the possibilities of my creative process. It enables me to build layers, movements, and compositions in ways that feel fluid and organic. Rather than treating one hand as dominant, I allow both to participate equally in the act of creation, resulting in works that embody harmony, rhythm, and energy both on canvas and on walls .

This rare skill has become a defining part of my artistic identity. It challenges traditional approaches to painting and reflects my belief that creativity has no fixed boundaries. Whether I am creating expressive portraits or mixed-media works, I strive to push beyond conventional methods .
What sets me apart is not only the technical ability to paint with both hands but also the unique perspective it brings to my work. It allows me to create art that is deeply intuitive, and emotionally engaging. I believe art should not only be seen but also felt, and I aim to create pieces that leave a lasting impression long after the viewer has walked away.

What’s next?
Looking ahead, I hope to continue pushing the boundaries of my artistic practice while reaching wider audiences with my work. I am particularly interested in expanding my portfolio of mixed-media and portrait works, Mural works , exploring larger-scale projects, and creating pieces that tell deeper and more impactful stories.

Beyond my personal practice, I am passionate about nurturing creativity in others. I plan to continue organizing art workshops, mentoring young artists especially the less privileged where I am from , and creating accessible spaces where people can discover the transformative power of art.

Ultimately, my vision is to build a lasting artistic legacy the one that not only showcases technical skill and innovation but also inspires connection, imagination, and meaningful dialogue through Art.
