Today we’d like to introduce you to Sunny Evans.
Sunny, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have always been a creative soul. As a kid, my favorite activities almost invariably involved craft paper and scissors. I also grew up on ten acres in SE MN, where I learned to appreciate a slower pace of life. After graduating from the U of M in 2010, I entered the workplace for a short period of time. I tried really hard to appreciate a steady job, but in truth I hated it. I knew it wasn’t for me. So I started my own baking business and hustled at that for a few years while my husband also built his own videography business. We loved the freedom and flexibility that provided us. We worked long hours, but it was doing what we enjoyed. After we started having kids, we continued to enjoy this way of life. I stopped baking for hire, though, and turned my focus on being present with my babies. But one thing was lacking, and that was community. I didn’t know many other parents that were passionate about living a slower life, or that prioritized time outside or time together as much as we did. So I started sharing about our way of life on Instagram, partly to find this community, and partly to inspire people to live a more intentional life. It was there that I connected with people from all over the globe, all passionate about living more simply. I now continue to share bits about the way we live, as well as flex my creative skills with fun nature-inspired DIYs, crafts, and recipes. It’s been such a gift to have a place to do these things, and I have plans for a website and YouTube channel in the near future to start sharing even more. My hope is that I would inspire others to slow down and savor this one wild and precious life. Because it’s too damn short to spend it doing that which makes you miserable.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the biggest struggles is keeping my own intentions in check. My main priority is to be present with my family and to savor all of our precious time together, but sometimes I sacrifice a bit of that in order to create or to share about our way of life. It’s a balancing act, for sure, as I don’t want to lose sight of why I do any of it at all.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I share about a slower way of life while also encouraging others to slow down themselves – often through creative projects.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
One of the reasons I’m so passionate about making the most of this life is because I lost my brother nearly 5 years ago to addiction. It has fueled me to be as intentional as possible with this fragile gift of life I’ve been given, and I want others to do the same.
