Hi Taylor, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
The Skin Studio dream was born when my daughter was conceived. The moment I realized I was pregnant with her I knew that I had to chase my dreams because I couldn’t let her grow up watching me do something I didn’t love or have passion for. I didn’t want her to watch me work my mediocre and safe job. If I was going to try and inspire her to chase everything she wanted in life I needed to give her an example. Be scared, do it anyway. Walking into faith and out of fear has been huge for my life. My daughter made me brave and without her I know I wouldn’t be where I am today. The Skin Studio opened September 1st, 2021 and is currently thriving. I get to help people everyday, I have built relationships, and a family outside of my own. My clients are my greatest gift. Without them, none of this would be possible.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think anything worthwhile in life is a smooth road. There are definitely huge challenges with owning a business. Financial, time management, marketing, clientele, to name a few. In the beginning, I worked 7 days a week and cashed in my 401k to open the business. I took a huge leap of faith to chase my dreams. Most people thought I lost my mind and maybe I did for a short while but it all worked. Every risk, every challenge has been more than worth it. The business is now thriving and I am slowly learning time management so I can put my daughter to sleep every night and spend time with my husband who has supported me every step of the way even though I am sure I terrified him.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a licensed esthetician and tattoo artist. At the skin studio, I specialize in lip blush, ombre powder brow, and microshading. I also offer skincare services for men and women, lash extensions, spray tanning, waxing & more. I am most proud of my semi-permanent makeup services. At The Skin Studio, I always say “changing lives one brow set at a time.”
Most of the clientele I receive for brows are women who have lost their brow hair after going through menopause, I have had some with alopecia, and some who just want a fuller brow. When they open their eyes to see their new face some have cried because they feel complete and I get to be a part of that. I get to help women from all over.
Lip blush offers symmetry to the lips. Many people have different shaped bottom to top, one side is longer, a cupids bow sits lower than the other side and I get to create a shape for them that will look symmetrical. Almost like camouflage. When people leave they have more confidence than when they came in and I am so grateful for every single person that trusts me to work on their skin with my shader. It is a trust thing, it does matter, and it does change lives.
I truly believe what sets me apart is that I care for all of my clients, I am honest with them, I don’t chase a dollar, and I am not a true salesperson. They know when they ask me something I am going to give them the truth and let them make their own educated decisions before spending a dime. I believe the skin studio has seen success because I have integrity.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was always outgoing, I won most likely to make you laugh in high school and I can really get along with everyone. I have 7 sisters so I do think that having so many personalities around made it easy to learn all different kinds of people. I loved softball and spending time with people.
