Rising Stars: Meet Tenzin Lhanzey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tenzin Lhanzey.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always enjoyed doing arts and crafts. I started making candles in 2018 purely as a hobby but it wasn’t until the pandemic (2020) that I had time to turn this hobby of mine into a small business.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There were many bumps along the way. I would say I struggled the most not knowing how to get my brand out there. Although it has gotten better, it is something that I still struggle with.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Summer Snow Studio, we make hand-crafted soy candles and reed diffusers. Our candles are made of eco-friendly soy wax, and lead-free cotton wicks for a clean and longer burn. We use high-quality phthalate-free fragrance oil infused with essential oil to create our unique scent profile. Each of our candles is hand-poured in small batches in Minneapolis, MN. Our Scents are inspired by memories, travel, and nature.

I am most proud of being able to turn this hobby of mine into a business. I would have never thought I could be a business owner.

They are so many candle makers out there. I think what really sets us apart is our clean ingredients, aesthetically pleasing packaging, and affordability. We also package all of our candles using biodegradable and recyclable packaging materials.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
The handmade marketplace by Kari Chapin is a must read for someone getting into starting a handcrafted business.
