Today we’d like to introduce you to Theresa Sanchez.
Hi Theresa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I fell in love with the workings of the mind when I took my first Psychology 101 course in High School. After getting through the first few pages of that book I vividly remember thinking “Oh my gosh, this is how I think” and for the first time in my life, I felt understood. My love for the helping field only grew over the years. I was stalled in the pursuit of my dreams on and off throughout the years due to substance abuse issues but once I finally healed the root cause of my problems I found my freedom. This opened up my energy to wildly pursue all of my dreams. My journey started with getting accepted into Graduate School at Winona State University in 2019.
I began to pursue two programs: Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Alcohol and Drug Counseling. I finally Graduate from WSU in May of 2023. In 2020, just a year after I started Graduate School, the opportunity to be trained as a Hypnotherapist fell into my lap. I had dreamed of being a Hypnotherapist since I was 22 years old so I took the biggest risk of my life and I jumped into this third program. After 12 months of studying, I completed my training and I am officially a Certified Hypnotherapist and a Rapid Transformational Therapy Practitioner. In January 2022 I opened my business: Transcendental Therapy.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The main struggles I had along the way were balancing my life and overcoming my fears. I am a Mother to four beautiful children and pursuing three separate programs in school while working and caring for them was often very stressful. I am forever grateful for the help my parents have given me throughout this journey because without them I couldn’t have done it. With all the classes, homework, reading, writing papers, studying, presentations, meeting with classmates for group work, and so much more, it was often overwhelming.
I knew that I was making a sacrifice in the present time for a much bigger reward later. I would say my bigger struggle was the fear in me that was attempting to hold me back. Fear is healthy because it keeps us safe, but if we let it control our lives it will keep us from pursuing our dreams. I wasn’t going to let anything stop me from pursuing my dream of helping people so I read many personal growth books to help me overcome those fears. I will never forget the first couple of sessions I did in my office. I was so scared that a part of me wanted to run out of there mid-session. I kept going and now I get so excited when I get to go do a session.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a Hypnotherapist, I help people find the root cause of their problems. I help them find the belief systems that they hold in their subconscious mind. Since the subconscious mind is the feeling mind, these belief systems are stored as feelings which makes them difficult to access with the conscious mind. Once the belief systems are locked into the subconscious mind they run our lives. Beliefs influence thoughts, thoughts influence feelings, feelings influence behavior, and behavior influences actions and events. Hypnotherapy takes a client into an Alpha Brain Wave state (or lower) which is the door to the subconscious mind, allowing access to the limiting belief systems that are running their behaviors. Stage hypnotism has skewed people’s perception of what Hypnotherapy is.
When you participate in a Hypnotherapy session you are not asleep, you are not out of control. Contrary to popular beliefs a Hypnotherapist cannot, and will not, make you do anything you don’t want to do. You are wide awake during the session, more awake than usual. Going into an Alpha Brain wave state is a very normal state. We go in and out of this state every single day when we daydream, when we drive down the highway or familiar roads, when we read, or when we watch a movie. These are all moments where we enter an Alpha Brain Wave State. You remember everything about the session because you are wide awake, just very relaxed.
I work with a wide range of issues including, but not limited to: addiction to drugs or alcohol, smoking, self-esteem, anxiety, depression, motivation, self-sabotage, money blocks, and grief.
What matters most to you?
There is only one thing that matters most to me: guiding as many people as I can to live healthier, happier lives. I know what it’s like to feel unworthy, stuck, unfulfilled, and broken. I also know what it feels like to find self-love, peace, and freedom.
Everyone has the ability to step into the best version of themselves and live their best life. I want to spend the rest of my life helping people transcend the limiting beliefs that are holding them back.
