Today we’d like to introduce you to Young Machito.
Hi Young Machito, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. I’m of Puerto Rican & Haitian descent. I was born on November 11th, 1996. Ever since I was a little kid, I always loved music, it was always something that was there for me whenever I was happy, sad, mad, etc.
My parents would always put on a lot of soul, R&B, 80s house music, as well as salsa, bachata, & merengue. I started out doing poetry at around 14 – 15 and eventually turned those poems into music at 16. But I started taking myself and music seriously once I was 18 and knew that this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I wanted to talk about my personal experiences and things in life that have happened.
I never wanted a 9 to 5 job living an ordinary lifestyle. You see, the thing with me is I like taking risks and going forward full force into what I do. Music is not just a hobby to me, it’s my way of life, my passion, my reason to get up every morning, and I know sooner or later it’s going to pay off because there is no plan B for me.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The path that I’ve taken has always been a lonely one. I have overcome many trials & tribulations. However, I don’t feel bad about it nor do I want sympathy.
All I want is for others to understand that no matter how tough life may be, “Keep in mind that finish line”. In the end, the reward becomes all the more sweet if you just stay focused and persistent in whatever you dream to accomplish.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
You can honestly separate me from the rest. My music style is original, I’m extremely versatile. I love Hip-Hop and Rap but I also like to play with new sounds and vibes including R&B.
When I find something that works I go in 100% to make it my own. I’m proud to say that there’s no comparison when it comes to my music.
What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Throughout my journey, the biggest lessons and tests came when I first started. I heard an abundance of negative remarks as well as many “no’s.” It had put a strain on me and made me question if this is what I wanted to be doing. I reminded myself that this is absolutely what I wanted to do.
I learned I needed to stay positive and take all the negativity to thrive for what I want. I just want to remind everyone that the only person who has control over your future is yourself. Hear the negativity but take that and use it as motivation, prove them all wrong, and love yourself throughout it all.
