Hi, Young Sage. Can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My name is Young Sage. My uncles raised me in Texas, which inspired me to do music. I was always interested in the sound of music, and my uncles always told me I had a talent for it. So I promised them before they passed away that I would use my talent to get our family out of poverty; since they passed, I’ve worked hard, won hundreds of competitions worldwide, and forced my way into the music industry to show my skill.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been challenging for me. People don’t understand the money, time, and effort it takes to pursue a music career. Nowadays, people don’t go off talent; they go strictly off of who they know and how much money they have.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Some of my main skill sets are my vocals for melodic rap songs and my speed rapping skills. I used to study Twista and Eminem when I was a kid, so they played a significant role in how I got where I am today. I’m most proud of setting a world record for winning the most competitions around the US. I feel like what sets me apart from others is my drive to continue to be versatile and not only stick to one type of music.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
My most important lesson is never to give up or let people tell you what you can and can’t do.
