Story & Lesson Highlights with Stevey Jay of St. Paul

Stevey Jay shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Stevey, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I would say the first 90 minutes of my day looks like prayer, mediation, and reading my Bible. Although everyday is different and never really in that divine order, I can say that setting the mood of your with God in the center will always be my number one go to. I always say however you start off your day will initially determine not only how you go about the day mentally, spiritually, or emotionally, but how your day will be overall in totality.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Yo! I go by the name Stevey Jay and I am a musical artist, actor, model, influencer, motivational speaker, etc. I believe I’m just a jack of all trades with everything I do. I’ve been modeling since 2017/2018 and creating content since 2015 which ventured me off into actually being on tv where I starred on a show called “Reunited” by Snap Originals. As of right now today I haven’t been doing much modeling/acting work, but I have been working on a lot of music. I started doing open mics at MaMa’s House hosted by Poetic MaMa, and then I proceeded to start doing shows at local church events where I landed a gig opening up for Christian artist “WhatUpRg”. It was a huge blessing and got me more comfortable to perform on stage and be perfect my stage presence. In this moment I can say I’m working on my first big body of work with a seven track EP called “ME vs me”. This EP will not only explore the mind and life of Stevey, but also take the listener more deeper with my wrestle of self and also my wrestle with God throughout my walk of following Jesus. Also right now I’m currently working on something very special with a group of friends called “Car Flows”. This beautiful vision is a “musical-promotional movement” which is what we like to call it. This gives artist’s the platform to perform their music and showcase their art by doing live performances of their songs with a mini concert-styled car concept. It’s been gaining lots of traction since we’ve started, and I’m just very excited for what’s in store for the future involving this.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
Simply the idea that I have to lose myself in order to keep people around. All of my life I’ve been the kind of person that always wanted to be the helping hand, the picker-upper, the one somebody can always lean on and depend on, and although these things are good for a time I started to realize I was losing myself in the process by growing resentment/bitterness towards those that weren’t aware of how they affected me. But really, sometimes some people did see how it affected me but didn’t care as long as they was reaping the benefits that came with me. But right now I’m in the season of choosing me, because if I keep pouring out of my cup to help others who else will pour into mines? Right now I only have the capacity to keep myself filled and choose self, but if I ever have access to overflow, that’s where my pouring will be accessible for others to be filled up as well.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
That suffering is necessary in order to maintain with longevity the success you want gravitated towards you. Many times people fumble what is being brought forth because they don’t have the character, endurance, wisdom, or capacity to handle what was meant to be bless them. When you go through the fiery trials of life it not only builds your character, but it also builds up your perseverance. If your faith is never tested you will never be able to see what kind of faith you do have, so initially the suffering is necessary for growth and shouldn’t be avoided because we all must go through it to be who we’re becoming.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes. The reason why I say this is because I feel like at this point in my life if your not given the authentic you and 100% of yourself weather it be behind the scenes or at home then what or who do you do this for? I have no choice but to be real because everything that I live by, stand by, and even preach is based off the truth of the Word of God. I feel like by being fake I’m not just letting others down but I’m letting myself down and most importantly I’m letting God down because I’m made in His image and He’s the embodiment of truth.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What will you regret not doing?
I would regret not doing what I was simply put on this earth to do and that is be a light. I believe that every person, every situation, and every season is all divinely-orchestrated by God to fulfill His calling over our lives. I know that God has given me many gifts and talents that I haven’t put to use in its fullest potential and I know this is the time in life for myself where I need to tap into everything God has placed on the inside of me. No matter how I feel, or how other people perceive me I know that my call is bigger than surface level feelings and thinking, but it’s something that has been given to me since birth to shift the atmospheres and people in it around me to change for the better and draw more near to their calling and purposes as well. It’s just simply allowing them to see in themselves what I’ve seen in them all along.
