Wayne Moran shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Wayne, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
For me, it’s being out hiking in one of the most beautiful places on earth, immersed in nature’s raw majesty. One recent experience that stands out is Cape Flattery in Washington State—the northwesternmost point of the continental U.S. It’s wild, untamed, and breathtakingly beautiful. Surrounded by crashing waves, towering sea stacks, and misty evergreens, time simply disappears. In those moments, I feel completely present—fully alive—and somehow more myself than ever. It’s in that wild stillness that I find clarity, inspiration, and a renewed sense of purpose.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Absolutely! I’m Wayne Moran—a fine art landscape and cityscape photographer based in Minnesota. By day, I’m also a software engineer, which allows me to pursue my photography with creative freedom and integrity. Through Wayne Moran Photography, I capture the awe-inspiring beauty of both natural and built environments, from the rugged cliffs of the Pacific Northwest to the architectural grandeur of cities like Chicago and Florence.
What makes my work unique is the blend of technical precision and emotional storytelling. I strive to create images that not only showcase beauty but also evoke a deep sense of wonder, nostalgia, and connection. My work has been featured in galleries, corporate offices, and private collections around the world, and I’m especially known for my ability to highlight the spiritual and historical depth of a place.
Right now, I’m working on a limited edition fine art print collection—massive, museum-quality pieces that are meant to transform the atmosphere of any space. I’m also passionate about mentoring emerging photographers and building a Christ-centered creative community that encourages artists to thrive in their gifts.
At the heart of it all, I believe art has the power to elevate, to speak truth, and to remind us of what’s good, beautiful, and worth preserving.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
Both of my parents taught me invaluable lessons about work, each in their own way.
My dad worked tirelessly to provide for our family. He showed me that hard work and perseverance aren’t just admirable—they’re essential. His quiet strength and commitment taught me the value of showing up, doing the work, and staying the course even when things get tough.
My mom’s journey was equally inspiring. She got married before finishing high school, but later I had the privilege of watching her graduate—an incredible moment of determination and growth. She managed our household with care and intention, but she didn’t stop there. She helped launch an early childhood education program in our community and invested deeply in encouraging local teens. Eventually, she went back to college to study counseling, all so she could better serve those in need.
Together, they showed me that work is more than just a paycheck. It’s about purpose, service, and leaving the world a little better than you found it.
Do you remember a time someone truly listened to you?
Absolutely. One of the most pivotal moments in my journey came when my friend and pastor, Warren Coe, took the time to really listen to me talk about my photography. He didn’t just nod along—he truly heard the passion behind my words. And then, in the most encouraging way possible, he gave me a gentle but firm push: “Why aren’t you taking this more seriously?”
That conversation was a turning point. Warren’s belief in my potential, paired with his challenge to pursue it with greater purpose, gave me the clarity and motivation I needed. I give him huge credit for where I am now in my photographic journey. Sometimes, all it takes is someone who sees what you can’t quite see in yourself—and who’s willing to speak truth in love.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Faith, Family, and Fotography—yes, with an F for fun and alliteration, but also because those three things truly shape who I am.
First and foremost, my faith grounds everything I do. It’s not just a belief system—it’s the foundation for how I see the world, treat others, and pursue my calling as an artist. My closest friends know that I see photography as a form of worship—capturing the beauty of creation and pointing people to something greater than themselves.
Family is my anchor. I deeply value my role as a husband, father, and friend. Whether we’re adventuring together on a hike, celebrating milestones, or simply enjoying a quiet evening, these relationships are sacred. They keep me humble, joyful, and rooted in what truly matters.
And then there’s photography—not just a profession, but a passion that allows me to blend creativity, storytelling, and exploration. My friends would say I light up when I’m behind the camera or sharing stories from my travels. Photography gives me a voice and a vision—and I’m incredibly grateful for that gift.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop holding back—and dive full-time into my travel and photography work.
In truth, I’m already on the edge of that transition. I’m just over two years away from reaching official retirement age, which will allow me to step away from my day job and pour my full energy into what I love most: creating meaningful art and teaching others how to do the same.
If I knew time was limited, I’d stop hesitating. I’d spend every possible moment exploring the beauty of the world, capturing it through my lens, and sharing what I’ve learned with others. Because at the end of the day, it’s not just about the images—it’s about living fully, purposefully, and passionately.
